The Portfolio and Decision Analysis group (PDA), part of the Chief Business Innovation Office (CBIO) organization, is uniquely positioned within Pfizer to harness the power of data to drive robust analytical insights that inform some of Pfizer’s most critical business questions, to facilitate tough investment and trade-off decisions for the Research & Development (R&D) portfolio, and to serve as an “early warning system” for potential issues that could impact decision-making.

The Competitive Intelligence (CI) Lead is a role on the PDA team that provides Pfizer leadership with industry-leading competitive information curated and crystalized into actionable insights and ensures delivery of ongoing competitive assessment for our early- and late-stage pipeline assets across Pfizer’s R&D (WRDM and GPD), Digital, and BioPharma organization

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
General Competitive Intelligence:
Partner with Executive Leadership Team, Portfolio and Strategic Investment (PSI) committee, Category Triads (leaders of commercial, development, and research organizations), and other key internal stakeholders to deliver competitive insights to support decision-making for key pipeline programs.
Partner with Business Development (BD) teams to evaluate competitive landscape for potential targets for licensing and M&A activity
Proactively partner across PDA and CBIO to integrate competitive insights across key services to categories (e.g., forecasting, corporate strategy, decision-analysis) and support key milestone decisions
Drive thought leadership to evolve how Pfizer engages with CI by exploring new techniques, tools, or processes to advance CI capabilities; Seek and leverage best practices from non-healthcare sectors to evolve CI practices
Manage primary CI research corporate policy in partnership with Legal; Ensure vendors deliver actionable, cost-effective primary intelligence with successful project ROI
Team Leadership
Lead a global team (NYC and Poland) of talented CI professionals responsible for delivering ongoing market surveillance and competitive intelligence for assets across Pfizer’s Categories and business units
Lead development of annual CI operating plan to ensure appropriate resource allocation and/or to secure additional resources to implement research plan, Guide prioritization of CI activities and efforts across team
Provide quality control for key CI output; Ensure CI findings are translated into clear and actionable insights that can inform strategy development and decision-making via Pfizer’s CI Knowledge System (SPYDER)
Lead recruitment, training, and development of CI team members across all levels and global location; Ensure job satisfaction and retention; Serve as career development advocate for CI team members
PDA Leadership
Serve as an active contributing member of the PDA-LT
Ensure connectivity and integration of CI with the rest of PDA
Contribute to building strong PDA culture
Lead PDA-wide initiatives as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional experience and educational requirements
10+ years’ experience in competitive intelligence, management consulting, investment banking, strategic planning, R&D, commercial development
Advanced Degree in business, decision analysis, medicine, or science
Previous people leadership experience, including demonstrated ability in leading change-agile teams, achieving results through matrix organizations, and developing talent
Exceptional change and transformation leader who can demonstrate a background of thriving in dynamic situations
Strong team player, with ability to maintain robust cross-functional and cross-team ties to influence colleagues outside of direct reporting structure
Experience in budget management and resource allocation
