The Director of Business Operations is a key member of the PC1 Leadership Team (PC1-LT) & supports the PC1 General Manager & the Leadership Team as Chief of Staff.  This role operates as a senior level advisor and strategic sounding board to the PC1 General Manager across a breadth of strategic, operational, quality, personnel, fiscal & communications initiatives/ activities, deliverables, and special projects identified by the LT as critical to the overall success of the group.

The DBO manages communications, planning and execution of daily operations, lead and monitor deliverables and direct special projects.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as Chief of Staff for the PC1 General Manager, providing planning, development & improvement of PC1 overall business strategy and management processes.  This role is accountable & responsible for overseeing that the following Business Management activities are completed:

  • Coordinates with Leadership Team (LT) to develop, enable and implement overarching strategic agenda and priorities through business strategies, operational plans, and key business projects

  • Finalizes and sets strategy development, goals setting, and budgeting requirements for the LT

  • Drives and implements business processes within PC1 in support of functional excellence, innovation, and quality

  • Leads and/or supports initiatives and continuous improvement activities such as line processes, SOPs, etc.

  • Provides project management support for special projects

  • Develops and track metrics to help monitor and report on business execution

  • Utilizes multiple approaches to resolve departmental concerns such as strategic problem solving, solution development, implementation planning and tracking across a range of strategic and operational issues.

  • Provides periodic progress reports, reflecting spend to date, projected expenditures, and anticipated costs

  • Can provide scenario planning from an expense point of view and can calculate ROI for identified strategies or project outcomes

  • Manages and monitors Travel & Entertainment expenses to ensure effective use of funds and policy adherence

  • Partners effectively with HR to establish and maintain high performing function through planning and management of organizational change, optimization of function / structure, processes, roles and governance, colleague engagement, communications, Leadership Team effectiveness and continuous improvement management

  • Reviews budget liaising with Leadership Team and Finance

  • Drives alignment and coordination of efforts across PC1: identifying, sharing, and implementing best practices, ensuring consistency in over-arching processes and systems, and developing partnerships with key colleagues in other functional areas ensuring ongoing alignment of goals and strategies

  • Contributes to and enables functional forums for continuous improvement of functional disciplines

  • Manages all PC1-LT & “off-site” extended meetings including agenda preparation, dissemination of pre-read materials, meeting facilitation, tracking of agreed actions.

  • Strategic Initiatives:

    • Key thought partner to PC1 General Manager and LT around vision, mission & strategic/ operational initiatives & help co-ordinate & provide oversight on selected initiatives.

    • Prepares reliable, high quality presentations, talking points, internal communications and correspondence that contribute to PC1 General Manager and LT’s productivity and performance, and effectively conveys key messages to intended audiences.

  • Organizational Roles

    • Develop Change Management plans & manage communication plans along with LT.

    • Participate in the CBIO Director of Business Operations/Chief of Staff Community of Practice and serve as the PC1 representative in all related activities.

    • Thought partner to PC1 General Manager and LT in developing / implementing plans to continually improve colleague engagement.

    • Develop colleague on-boarding programs/materials & coordinate on-boarding activities as needed.

    • Working closely with CBIO groups as well as other functional groups including

Finance & HR Leads to drive change through the organization & ensure that activities are aligned across Pfizer.

  • Working with PC1 General Manager to optimize team effectiveness at all levels of the organization.

  • Operational Roles

    • Works with Finance POC to plan for and manage the PC1 Budget from Ops Planning through to annual reconciliation.

    • Develops presentations to internal & external stakeholders in collaboration with team members & business partners.

    • Provides planning, operational & project management support as appropriate on major initiatives to the PC1 General Manager and members of the LT to achieve group’s goals.

    • Liaises & collaborates as appropriate with Points of Contacts within CBIO functions/departments on cross-functional projects & initiatives.

    • Supports PC1 General Manager on addressing issues, communications, projects, submissions as needed.

    • Ensures that requests for action & information to PC1-LT are prioritized & handled in a timely & coordinated manner, manages & tracks commitments made by the PC1 General Manager executing follow-up activities, & effectively supporting the Head with correspondence & communications involving both routine & complex matters.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree

  • Advanced Degree is desirable, in one of the disciplines relating to drug development or business

Experience

  • Strong track record of effectively implementing tools and techniques of the project management discipline (developing integrated project plans, etc.).

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in clinical development and/or commercial development.

  • Deep expertise in project management, portfolio management, drug development and/or pharmaceutical discipline.

  • At least 10 years of experience in managing multiple, highly complex projects and portfolio governance.

  • Strong technical experience in a discipline associated with drug development.

  • Knowledge of commercial issues that drive late-stage development.

  • Demonstrated success in negotiating in an environment of a highly matrix-based organization.

  • Strong track record meeting personal and team goals.

  • Proven record of implementing projects and process improvements using proven change management tools and techniques.

  • Experience implementing learning and development solutions within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
